How can I start playing football on a team ?

Posted on February 25th, 2010 by admin

I’m currently 12 years old and in the 7th grade. I’ve loved football all my life ever since I watched football on the TV with my dad when I was 5 years old. Now, I’m taking the sport pretty seriously. Looking at either outside linebacker or wide receiver. So anyone out there have any ideas on how to join a football team in NYC ? Thank you !

Inquire about the local youth football league(s) in your area. Then find out when they have sign-ups.

Over the last decade, who has been the most important (to their team) player in the NBA?

Posted on February 25th, 2010 by admin

I’m not looking for who has scored the most Points or who has dished out the most Assists. I want to know who has made their team better, and who has been the most essential part of every team that they’ve been on in the last decade. I will note that mentioning stats, and a your player’s team success with or without him, will be very important. I just don’t want to hear about leading the league in scoring, Assists, Rebounds, or anything like that. And I don’t want to hear about All Star teams, because a 4 yr old can go online and vote for their favorite player. I encourage you to mention stats, but explain why those numbers are important, and more importantly exlain why it has been important for your player’s team(s). I have an opinion, but maybe your answer will sway me. I want the most detailed explanation.

Also, I’ll read all the posts and reply to as many as possible, so be sure to check back at this quesiton.
kevin S, and Another Garcia.. you made really good points… Duncan and Shaq are my top 2, with Shaq being #1. You must factor that defensively Shaq is the most underrated player in the league. How often do you see a player going straight at him, and how often do you see Shaq requiring help?.. Rarely. So he basically takes whoever he’s guarding, out of the game. Over 90% of whoever Shaq guards, is falling away from the basket when they shoot – lower percentages. And another thing. Look at Shaq’s teams in his 4 titles.

From ‘00-’02 the Lakers avg’d 60.3 wins per season. Shaq missed 26 games and they only went 13-13 without him.
Then flip to last season with the Heat. The Heat finished 52-30, and won an NBA title. Yet without Shaq they were only 10-13 (.435 winning %). So with Shaq they were 42-17 ( .712 %) So in the combined yrs of NBA TITLES, Shaq’s teams have only gone 23-26 without him.

I agree with both of you but but Kevin S. has given more details.
A last thing about Shaq. Isn’t it funny how Shaq’s teams always seem to be clutch?? If you really analyze Shaq’s games, the fact that he has to constantly be doubled & sometimes tripled is enough to wear a defense down. You always see a forward or guard come down to double then sprint back to the perimter to defend the wide open man.

Then on the other end Shaq requires no help. Therefore very few doubles are needed so the Heat aren’t doing the same thing that the opposition has to do. And b/c Shaq requires no help, it causes for even more movement by the offensive team to create.

Shaq sits out important parts of 4th quarters at times, but it doesn’t matter. His damage has been done through 3 quarters. It’s not by chance that Shaq’s teams always seem to be clutch in 4th qtrs. They have more energy than the opposition. If they were so clutch, they’d reveal their "clutchness" without him, but since they can’t win consistently without him, it comes back to Shaq.
baypae.. that’s a good point. I’m not sure that you can build a championship around K.G. in that he plays too much like a SF. He’s 7′0-7′1 (he’s listed at 6′11 but look at him next to any 6′11 guy in the league. He’s at least an inch taller) and needs to attack the basket more, and he should be shooting over 50% every season. He falls away from the basket too much on offense. Yeah he puts up the best numbers in the NBA, but if you look at the history of the league, most NBA champions are built around a player that attacks the basket. Jordan may have been in a guard, but he attacked the basket like that of a Power Forward. In fact, I think he attacked the basket more than K.G. does at 7′0. And K.G. has actually been criticized for falling away too often.

But you did make a good point. K.G. is one of the most important players in the league.
CelticsLove, I agree w/ u about Nash. They’re 2-4 w/o him this yr. However, does Nash play defense?

Also, if it’s DWade’s team. 1) why does Shaq draw 4 times the doubles than that of Wade – including last yr’s finals?
2) Why do the Heat have a 35-40 rec w/o Shaq (last 3 seasons), & a 120-51 w/ Shaq? Without Shaq they’re a 7 seed at best!.

Let’s not get carried away w/ Shaq’s guards. Penny, Wade, & Kobe have collectively played 13 NBA seasons w/o Shaq. That’s a span of 1,066 games. Collectively they have led their teams to ONE (1) playoff series victory without Shaq, & that was Wade’s rookie season. Remember, if you win a title that’s 4 playoff series victories. You can win one and move on. 13*4 = 52 opportunities for series victories. Now explain the odds of 1,066 Reg season games over 13 yrs, and all of these guards playing for "bad teams" except 1 season. It’s about to be 14 seasons, if Phx defeats LA which they should.

Be careful about giving Shaq’s guards credit.
Celticlove.. I agree with you about Kobe. As far as winning as the focal point, he hasn’t shown anything. He’s 112-111 as a starter since Shaq left, with of course zero playoff series victories. Plus guys like D.Wade and LeBron put up better total numbers anyway. Ppl believe that Kobe has the best numbers, yet they only look at scoring. Jordan did a whole lot more than scoring so I have no idea why Kobe is compared to him. Also, the "genius" of the media compared Kobe to Jordan at 21-22. How can a guy be compared to Jordan that’s not even drawing double teams???? This of course when he was with Shaq. Plus Jordan made those around him better. Who is kobe making better????? I agree with you totall about Kobe.

Over the last two years, two players rise to the top. Shaquille O’Neal and Tim Duncan.

One of the most important aspects of a players contribution is offensive effiency. By shooting nearly 60% from the floor, he opens up the court for other star performers, two of which you may have heard.

Further, his offensive prowess forces teams to foul him frequently. Thus, he forces teams to sit their starting power forwards and centers.

Tim Duncan is extraordinarily effective on both ends of the floor. He is not as efficient as Shaq, but is better able to create his own shot. He is also excellent at setting screens and opening up the offense.

Further Duncan is a top-5 defender, who uses his ability to block shots to take away the opponents inside game, while offering outstanding help defense (Bowen has made a career funneling guards into Duncan’s path).

In terms of impact, I don’t think Parker-Ginobili wins too many playoff games, and the Lakers haven’t either in the last three years.

Over the last 10 years, Shaq has lost some of his defensive prowess and his free-throw shooting is really going to cost the Heat down the stretch this year. As such, I give the nod to Duncan, which isn’t entirely fair considering these last ten seasons will undoubtedly be the finest of his career.

What should I do for a team-building exercise within my company?

Posted on February 25th, 2010 by admin

I’ve been tasked with creating a team-building program to help boost company moral and team spirit. Thus far, I was thinking of hosting a Mazola party. Basically, it would involve a large, padded room with plastic sheeting on the floor. Everyone gets naked and oils themselves down with Mazola, or some other type of oil, then start running around and trying to catch the one they want to boink.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

you won’t be with the company long if you try that, how about signing the company up for a ropes course. check with your local YMCA camp

What individual and team sports is United States participating in?

Posted on February 25th, 2010 by admin

Individual and team sports? And headline performers from the United States?

The US has entries in every scheduled Olympic Event.

I will let you figure out the second half of your question, because that is pretty subjective.

Is team work is good while doing homework?

Posted on February 25th, 2010 by admin

Is team work is good?

Yes team work is good.
You should encourage team work. This is important to develop social skills and provides a great opportunity for kids to learn and work with others.
Team work is an essential skill that kids need to learn at an early stage of their development. They need to learn how to work with and learn from each other and also how to respect and be open minded towards another team member’s ideas. In addition to studying with each other, it is also a good idea to allow kids to be involved in team sports or team activities.
Parental supervision is also important especially when it comes to team work within young kids.

How can I get a soccer team for my school?

Posted on February 25th, 2010 by admin

I’m in middle school and my middle school is like the only one without a soccer team. They tell us it’s because we don’t have enough money for one (uniforms, goals, balls the works) but is this because of the no child left behind funding? What should I do for my school to raise funds without talking to the student government?

You can organize a fundraiser, do a carwash, run a raffle to raise money. also you can ask a store or like a restuarant to be a sponser for your team. another thing you can do is write a petition Get students and parents signatures saying that they want a soccer team. Also get someone who can coach the team.

What pro sports team including minor league teams has the cheapest tickets?

Posted on February 25th, 2010 by admin

I’m in a family of four near Chicago and it’s tough to take the family to a sporting event with the high ticket prices. I’m just curious if there are some teams with inexpensive tickets in the Chicago area or elsewhere. Thanks.

Try the Joliet Jackhammers. It’s always fun there. We go lots in the summer. For 6 bucks you can sit practically on the field! $2.50 beers…..give them a try.
