On The Team

This is not about me but my boss I found out used to be on our team before becoming a supervisor. To me she has always been my boss so no big deal but to the others that must have been really weird. The person you use to chill with and knows when and how you slack off is now in charge of you. Also as a manager the people you supervise know your work habits etc that must be really difficult. Just thinking

Try coming into a team as the new guy and then, after busting your butt for 5 years, being promoted above all the people who you learned the ropes from. Talk about awkward.

I did have the presence of mind to study for an MBA so I understand why managers do what they do. I always used to be confused by the machinations of management – but now I understand the reasons behind the decisions.

One thing I hope I have retained from my team player days is an appreciation of exactly what it takes to get the job done. My staff know I came from their ranks and I understand their job. I also know that it is part of the process to goof off now and then. They work damn hard so I let them get away with the little things. A good manager knows how to give and take.

If you ever become a manager, learn this one fact: Your success is only a reflection of the success of your staff. It is your job to help them succeed and do all you can to make that success as rewarding as possible.

What are some ways to contribute to a team envioronment?

A good team player needs to act in a manner that purports to the best interests and image of the team instead of their own. Because of the psychological condition known as ‘diffusion of responsibility’, groups are often more inclined to sacrifice ethics or security for personal gain more readily that they would as individuals. Thus, a good team player is often the person who evaluates appropriate actions with a moral calculus instead of an economic or social standard.

*SO FAR* I’m going with Philadelphia on this, because most of the "Experts" believed the 76ers have one of the best starting 5 (I still think it’s above average) and they had a deep bench. They predicted they would be either the 3rd or 4th seed in the Easter Conference, 2nd in division with like 50 wins. But look at them now, 17-20 3rd in division.

*SO FAR* Atlanta Hawks is my underrated team. John Hollinger, an "expert" working for ESPN, said that the Hawks were going to be 10th in the Eastern Conference with the Bucks AHEAD of the Hawks. I also remember some "experts" predicted the Hawks at 13th in the conference! BEHIND NETS, KNICKS, PACERS, BUCKS, BOBCAATS? Well anyways, Atlanta made them all shut up especially Hollinger when he made an Insider-only article saying that he was wrong about the Hawks. The Atlanta Hawks deserve A LOT of credit for all the doubters. They are now currently 5th in the conference, 2nd in the division, and have garnered a lot of respect from other teams.

Overrated Player: SO FAR, Gilbert Arenas because he got a 6 year contract worth $111 million dollars but hasn’t played a SINGLE game yet. Until he plays, he’s my overrated player.

Underrated Player: Dwyane Wade because they doubted that he would even be back to his normal health, which put his team in the bottom 1/4 in preseason ranking, fantasy teams didn’t pick him up until around 2nd-3rd round (obviously he’s a top 5 player now ;1st rounder). Dwyane Wade leads the league in points and carried the Heat to a 20-17 record, 5 more than last year.

I’ve been asked this twice recently and didn’t get either job. Any tips? Both times I’ve said stuff about supporting other team members and recognising that every person brings different skills to the team. What else is there to say?

I swear to God, everyday when I come on here, its all people do is hate. Every player, every team and every owner sucks. Why do you people even watch sports if everyone sucks? Why not hand out some kind words to the teams that deserve it? Why not say "he is a great player"? Are you afraid of the truth?

It is probably caused by jealousy, that is about all that I can think of.

Even though I expected it I love the Dragons methodical destruction of teams. Im shtting myself when my Tigeys play them!!! The way they keep teams to 1 try defensively – then they go put 4-5 tries on the other team!!!

I love the Tigers and Im so pleased Lote has come to us playing his heart out. He has been one of the stand-outs for us (I was worried he would be a passenger — getting paid before retirement)
