Why were most team sports invented in the 1800s and later?

Posted on January 26th, 2011 by admin

It seems the history of most team sports dates from the mid 1800s. Why weren’t there any team sports prior to that time? I know people participated in games but all the modern ones seem to have this same time frame.

I believe it’s because around that time there was a greater influx of wealth and leisure time which led to people seeking to have extracurricular activities, such as sports. And because people had more wealth and were not as worried as getting by, they began paying to see people playing sports too.

This mostly happened because of the Industrial Revolution which led to better transportation, factories, materials, etc.
Hope I helped! :)

Do you think championships are overrated when it comes to team sports?

Posted on December 17th, 2010 by admin

I mean if we are talking about tennis or golf, then winning will be the best measuring of players.

In team sports, teams should be compared with rings but not players. Do you agree?
Not that they aren’t important, but they are not a way to compare players.

completely agree & i have always thtought this as well.

example: if tim brown was on the 49ers & jerry rice was on the raiders, would we be looking at jerry the same way & tim in a different way as well. their numbers & championships won or not won would obviously be different. you could make that argument for any player in any team sport.

Posted on December 11th, 2010 by admin

what degree in college would help me the most if i want to become an athletic trainer on a profssional sports team? and how hard is it to get a career like this?

I noticed a lot of the college student-athletes that want to be coaches and/or trainers major in either Kineselogy, Sports Management, or Professional Recreation. Go on some college websites and look at the bios of some of the athletes and you can see what I’m talking about.

Good luck.

What is the difference between a club and a team in terms of sports?

Posted on December 5th, 2010 by admin

What is the difference between a sports team being a "team" or a "club? For example, soccer teams are called football clubs, baseball teams are called baseball clubs, but football teams are just called teams.

A sports club, athletics club or sports association is an eclectic institution oriented to multiple sports, which fields many teams and in several sports, working under the same umbrella organization. In a larger sense, it may also refer to any sports institution, even those that have only one sports team or a single sports department. In order to differentiate a single-sport institution from a multi-sport one, the term multi-sport club is used. The term athletics club may either mean a sports club or a club for the sport of athletics outside of the United States and Canada.
Examples abound of sports clubs that are in effect one sports team. Each team from the NBA (basketball), NFL (American football) or MLS (association football) American sports leagues, can be called sports clubs, but in practice, they focus solely on a single sport. On the other hand, American varsity teams are generally organized into a structure forming a true multi-sport club belonging to an educational institution.

Is it possible to Join a university sports team without any previous expeience?

Posted on November 27th, 2010 by admin

I really would like to join the basketball team at the university I will be attending this fall. The only problem is I have no basketball experience what so ever, but I just recently started getting into the sport by watching games on TV. I dont want to go to the tryouts and embarass myself because I literally never played any sports in highschool and have no idea what univeristy sports will be like.

I really need help with this…thanks.

Your avatar looks so sad.

Most of the people on a "university" team are there on scholarships so no you probably wouldn’t be able to just "join" without crazy b-skill before hand.

If this "university" is actually on the same level as a community college the yes there is defiantly a large possibility.

Why is having a professional sports team good for the economy of a city?

Posted on November 26th, 2010 by admin

New York City spend 1.5 billion building a new Yankee stadium across the street from the old stadium and it has a SMALLER capacity than the old stadium. People say having the team is good for the economy. I don’t see it. The area around the stadium is a pit. Drugs, crime, boarded up buildings etc. I fail to see the benefit of having a professional sports team. Maybe you can straighten me out.

What you say makes common sense but n.y was in competition with the Meadow-lands in N.J.
And yes they built the seat capacity too small but are catering to Wall st & lawyers that have the money for a $5,000. & $2,5000 or $500. seat
They did this to offer the rich or plain poor fools parking space and cup holders on the seats.
I know my stuff even the mayer said it was a bad decision but they didn’t listen.
You see bankers lawyers etc. and most republicans want to think they are better than working democrats.

Why is it that India excels in Individual sports but sucks in team sports?

Posted on November 24th, 2010 by admin

I mean we find a lot of sports icons coming up in individual sports but when team sports is concerned we dont deliver. Is it because we lack unity?
Shiva I know we dont have many but whatever we have had its predominantly from individual sports

Poor facilities and management. Government doesn’t care.
