What 3 teams would you consider to be the greatest baseball teams in the history of Major League Baseball?

Posted on June 1st, 2011 by admin

This is a question to any knowledgeable baseball fan. What 3 teams would you consider to be the greatest baseball teams in the history of Major League Baseball?

You can go back from the 1920’s to modern day baseball.
However, by doing so one must exemplify and give answers and background to each team that he picks representative for the 3 best teams. It must be also a team that has some sort of dynasty connected with it. Please respond.

The best team I ever saw was the 1998 Yankees and as much as it pains me to say that as a Met die hard, it’s the truth. I watched almost ever Yankee game that year and it was hard to hate them. They had the perfect build; pitching, power, speed, defense and a great bullpen. They could play small ball, they could slug it out. And the funny thing is, there were only two HOFers on that team.

The best teams though in my opinion-
1927 Yankees- the team was the start of the great Yankee teams and with Ruth and Gehrig anchoring a powerhouse lineup, for that time period anyhow, they were almost unbeatable.

1955 Brooklyn Dodgers- it’s hard NOT to include them because if it weren’t for the crosstown Yankees, the bums would have won a few more championships while in Brooklyn. The team rivaled the Yankees in terms of HOFers. I’ll go to the grave saying that it’s a crime that Gil Hodges isn’t in the Hall.

1961 New York Yankees- The M&M boys made that an exciting summer because of the homerun chase. And with all the venom that Maris had to endure, the supposed rivalry between the party animal Mantle and the quiet family man Maris that the media tried to create which didn’t exist, it took away from one of the most exciting baseball seasons for Yankee fans and baseball fans.

Honorable Mentions:
I’m also going to mention the 1986 Mets because that team could have done more. Since many fans like to compare the past and the present, had the divsion and playoff format been like it is today back in the 80’s, the Mets would have made the playoffs from 1984-at least 1990. That team was much like the 1998 Yankees team, perectly crafted. Pitching, power, speed, defense, great bullpen for it’s time. Davey Johnson said in Spring training that the team was going to dominate, and they did. Of course they didn’t dominate in the WS, but it wouldn’t be a Met team without some drama now would it. Had injuries not snake bit the 87 team, they could have very well repeated (not taking anything away from St. Louis or Minnesota) and in 1988 they ran into a red hot Dodger team and Orel Hershiser. An Oakland/New York WS would have been epic. The teams were so similiar it wasn’t funny.

I’m also very partial to the 1990’s Braves team that should have/could have won more championships than they did. Plus that rotation is one of the best ever assembled. Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz and Avery- 6 Cy Youngs between them (Avery could have very well won one).

Are professional sports teams important to the identity of a city?

Posted on May 13th, 2011 by admin

If a city has a professional sports teams does it contribute to how the city is viewed the identity if so how?

It really depends on the person viewing it. If it’s someone who takes that into consideration then yes, it will matter. Although most people don’t really care about things like that, they like their home teams no matter how bad they are. They usually look for a good living style, not how good the teams are.

What is the maximum number of teams you should have in an NL Only Fantasy Baseball League?

Posted on April 25th, 2011 by admin

Someone asked me to join a fantasy baseball league and I did. I don’t have much experience with fantasy league baseball, but we have 12 teams and there is little that you can do during the season to improve your team. Obviously, you can try to trade with other players, but nobody wants to give up their good players for your bad ones. I think they should expand to NL and AL. Any thoughts?

I like the idea of a NL only league, but the limit would be about 8 teams. More than that and it would need to be all of baseball. Of course I don’t know how you’d change once the season has started.

What are some pure defensive teams that made it big in basketball?

Posted on February 9th, 2011 by admin

Hey people, I just wanna know what are some of the best defensive teams in the NCAA or NBA to make it to the finals, win or lose. Example, Butler last year, they were basically all defense, but lost in the finals of the NCAA tournament. So, yeah I just wanna know what were some other situations like this, where basically defense lead them to where they got to. Thanks!

The 08′ Boston Celtics
The 04′ Detroit Pistons
The 94′ Houston Rockets
The 89′ Detroit Pistons

How many more teams will the Jets beat in the last minute?

Posted on December 3rd, 2010 by admin

They’ve barely beat the Broncos, Browns, Lions, and Texans, all teams that aren’t that great. Will they just keep marching through every game and waiting till the final seconds to win?

Jealousy will get you nowhere….just realise the fact that the Jets are the best team in the NFL..
They leave it to the last minute just to let opposong teams think they have a chance….if they had wanted, the Jets could have killed all those ganes off by the end of the 1st quarter by amassing an uncatchable number of points….but they just prefer to make a game of it,otherwise the games would just be boring.
