Statistically, what team is the worst and which player also has the worst stats in the whole NHL? Past and present?
Worst team:
Currently- The Islanders, as they finished last a year ago.
Past -1974-75 Washington Capitals 8W-67L-5T for 21 points
the Ottawa team referred to only played 48 games in 1994-95 due to the first NHL lockout.
Worst player: As stated , many players had zero points in a limited number of games.
Last season:
Defenseman Jason Smith on Ottawa played 63 games, only scoring 1 goal( happened to be a game winner in OT), zero Assists, was a -3, while averaging over 17 minutes of ice time. But he did have 123 Hits and 148 blocked shots (ranked 40th and 25th among defenseman, respectively)
Forward-Last year, Wade Belak played 53 split between Florida and Nashville, with only 2 assists while averaging around 5 minutes of ice time per game. In Nashville , he tied for the team lead with 10 Major penalities.
Goalie:
Many, but I’ll go with Johan Hedberg in Atlants, appeared in 33 games, starting 26 of them. He went 13-12-3, but his GAA was 3.49 with a Save% of.886. Even the Isles goalies were better than that, lol.
ALL-Time- Again, there are so many one-game wonders. For forwards and defenseman , I’ll throw out Len Wharton, who played 1 game for the NY Rangers back in 1944-45 and didn’t get on the stat sheet.
For goalies, I looked for a goalie that played one full game (60 minutes)
Ron Loustel played one game for Winnepeg during the 80-81 season and allowed 10 goals during his only 60 minutes.

Statistically, New York Islanders WERE the worst team in the NHL in the 2008-2009 season.
The worst stats? Many are tied for 0. Some had a really bad performance, some were injured. And some just played a lot few games..;)

NYI have been the worst in every area for awhile. Right from there players to Managemement. Now with some changes and John Taverse things should get better. Will take a few more years.
The Past I think the sens had the worst or one of the worse records in history when they came back in the 90’s. Alexandra Diagle (not sure if I spelled that correct) was drafted 1st overall, lots of promise but ended up being one of the biggest disappointments that I can think of

The team that won the least games in a season was the Ottawa Senators in there 3rd ever season at 9 games. Statistically is kind of hard to judge because most guys that don’t put up points are sent back down a rank but maybe a fighter because they don’t get many points?

This year the worst team is going to be the Colorado Avalanche
And I’m not going to cop out like the others – the worst player has to be Rod Neidermayer. The only reason he was signed by anyone was so they could get his brother – who doesn’t suck.
