Miracle On Ice, Newly Discovered Original Live Call
Posted on April 16th, 2010 by admin
Check out this incredible, newly discovered, original play-by-play call of The Miracle On Ice, perhaps the greatest upset in the history of team sports. When the USA shocked Russia, 4-3, at the 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics, Curt Chaplin was covering the game as a sports reporter for the ABC Radio Network. Standing on a camera platform in the crowd, he did play-by-play of the entire game into his tape recorder, capturing the event on tape forever. Now, after 25 years, these tapes have been rediscovered and matched to the video. The result is a dramatic, stirring and completely original experience for sports fans all over the world. Now you can relive the #1 sports upset of the 20th Century in a whole new way, through new eyes and a new voice. Still as fresh and exciting as the day it happened. Curt’s call has been accepted as an exhibit by the Hockey Hall of Fame in Toronto. If you know any hockey players, fans or anyone who loves sports, send them the link. They should all see it.

I’ve watched this …
I’ve watched this video so many times, and I never get tired of it. The reason the play by play is so amazing is because Curt is full of emotion and knows the game better than Michaels. “It’s knocked down, Eruzione… SHOOTS… SCOOOOOORES!!!! I can watch and listen to that over and over!!! Awesome job Curt!

to usafmtI1: dude, …
to usafmtI1: dude, the ‘unbelievable’ is Dryden, not Michaels. Dryden’s input, throughout the game was one of the worst jobs of announcing I have ever heard of in sports.

This proves …
This proves anything is possible that USA team had only collage players and they beat the greatest team in the world

@comradecommedy …
@comradecommedy Years later, someone asked Tretiak. He responded with two words: “Coach crazy.”
The USSR coach, Viktor Tikhonov, didn’t like Tretiak, who was regarded as the best goaltender in the world, and achieved a level of international stardom that the Soviet hockey establishment didn’t care for. Tikhonov was sure that the USSR would win that game no matter who the goalie was, so when Tretiak made that mistake at the end of the first period, he used that as an excuse to show Tretiak up.

Why did the soviet …
Why did the soviet coaches have to replace Vladislav Tretiak after the 1st period? The soviets were fine at first but then they just have to get rid of their best goalie.

Who are the …
Who are the anti-American idiots that said they don’t like this video.

thank you reggie, …
thank you reggie, for those wonderful complimentary words. contrary to michaels and dryden, i could feel it coming right from the opening faceoff. when they tied it up 1-apiece. when they tied it 2-2 on tretiak’s mistake. when they trailed only 3-2 at the end of the 2nd period i was feeling the electricity of what might happen in the air. and when they tied it in the 3rd, and eruzione scored the game winner…i was READY.

Much better call …
Much better call then Michaels/Dryden. Dryden was simply awful I thought. He was the typical Canadian who looks down on American hockey. His pregame thoughts were negative toward the American chances, and then on every goal the Americans made, he would offer luke warm praise, always mentioning words like ‘uncharacteristic’, ‘out of nowhere’ etc. He was even talking (rather than following the play) during the most famous goal in hockey history- the 4th American goal. Chaplin’s call- perfect!

yea, I’m sure …
yea, I’m sure that’s exactly how it happened
April 16th, 2010 at 1:22 pm
That’s the only …
That’s the only mircle I’ve ever witnessed. It was impossible for us to win, I knew we’d lose. When we tied the game in the thrid period, I was thrilled, but I knew we couldn’t win. Not until Jim McKay said “do you believe in miracles?” did I dare to hope we’d win. It still sends chills up my spine.

Before this …
Before this tournamet the Soviet players were supplied by their government a Lada and an apartment. After these games they were spotted driving Mercedes and wearing expensive jewelry. US Hockey is rumoured to have paid the Soviet players in excess of 250 thousand dollars each to lose this hockey game to the United States, That was a lot of money back then. They were convincing while they took their kneel, weren’t they?

Canada was not in the medal round, but our best players, being “professionals” (unlike the Russian guys who were in the Army but played hockey all year) were not allowed to play. So, our best players didn’t get into the medal round.
What is surprising about that?
The NHL All-Stars did play the USSR, but in 1979. 90% Canadian.
Yes, one game the Russians won 6-0. Probably an off night, especially if you compare it to all the other tournaments over the years.

Buddy, lambourginiish is an idiot whose foolishness is exacerbated by his rudeness.
He does not represent all Canadians, and I am embarrassed to share a citizenship with him.
There are only two choices with a goof like that; either ignore him or sink to his level. It’s fun to bash him one back, but remember what the man once said:
“The more you taunt the monkey in the cage, the more he throws his feces at you.”

@lamborginiish to …
@lamborginiish to stop hitler? you must take different history classes than us. maybe you arent clear of this but if not for the USA and the soviet union you’re canadian would be speaking german, remember that and quit being such a to your neighboring country, we are allies, we are all north american, so whats your issue with the states? did an american man your wife?

@wilmanric1 even if they WERE our best players, i didnt see canada in any medal round that year did u? and didn’t the soviet union beat the NHL allstars 6-0??? i bet that team was 90% canadian too
April 16th, 2010 at 1:22 pm
@lamborginiish lmao …
@lamborginiish lmao yeah cuz everyone in america is fat, you are so ignorant to the world thats obvious, why dont you visit the states you will see that we dislike fat people just as much as you, but we do have 300,000,000 people, i mean there is going to be a huge chance of us having more fat people than a country with only 30 mil, get it? its basic math, genius

Buddy, no need to get rude with the Yanks. IF you rely on facts rather than spleen you will make your point with more force. Shite-calling just makes you seem … well, silly.

Great point! Being from the south, I rarely, if ever watched hockey before this game. From what I’ve learned since, you nailed it.
