Because of differing cultural backgrounds, the same message may have a different impact or may mean different degrees of intensity, importance, or significance to a person. Because of this, even if a multicultural workforce use the same language, say English, communication becomes a challenge. Thus for a manager, getting the same message across to an audience of various cultural backgrounds would have to be sensitive to the cultural leanings of each message receiver. This requires a whole new realm of skills from the manager such as flexibility, sensitivity, firmness, negotiation skills and an appreciation for other cultures. Although this presents a greater challenge to the manager who is exacting teamwork from his staff, this also opens the door to a richer teamwork experience that may blossom into synergy that is otherwise unachievable by a workforce made up by people of only one culture.
