What sports teams are most popular where you live?
Posted on June 7th, 2010 by admin
Hello everyone! I am doing a little sociology project, looking at the demography of sports. I want to know which major league teams are the most popular in your *immediate* area where you live. This could mean your town or your neighborhood if you live in a big city. If two teams are even in your area, please describe. There’s no right answer, it’s just what you perceive to be most popular. I am collecting data on 5 sports. If you don’t know any, just leave it blank.
Baseball
Football (NFL)
Football (college)
Basketball
Hockey
Please also to remember to tell me what town you live in!
Thanks everyone!
I’ll go with the Leafs since you put this in the hockey section….even though the Leafs ARE the most popular in Toronto anyhow….

In Philly basically I would say
1) Phillies
2) Eagles
3) Flyers
4) Sixers
Mind you though, the top three teams get alot of attention in Philly and even at 3rd, the Flyers sell-out almost every game and have great TV ratings. So if you could I would say Eagles, Flyers, and Phillies all together then the Sixers well…..they’re just….not popular.

In South Florida :
Football = Miami Dolphins
College football = Miami Hurricanes
Basketball = Miami Heat
Hockey = The Florida Panthers
Baseball = The Florida ( soon to be Miami)Marlins
Down here baseball though cheap isn’t a huge draw unless they are winning and in the playoffs or world series. Football is still King. The ONLY reason the Heat are listed as ahead of the Panthers at this time is the better record of the past few years has given them the slight ( and eroding) edge in bodies in the building.

I live in Northern Colorado.
I would say the Denver Broncos are the most popular. Then the Colorado Rockies, then the Colorado Avalanche, then Denver Nuggets. Then college is mostly CSU since I live where CSU is located.
Most of this is based on how often I see people wearing a team’s apparel. I actually see more people wearing Rockies and Avalanche stuff than any other team, but I think anyone who lives in Colorado knows that it is a Broncos first state.

I’m from Buffalo, and hockey and football are most popular. We have a pro lacross team thats gaining some notoriety. There is no pro basketball team, and a minor league baseball team which I guess the locals enjoy but not to the extent of hockey or football.
