Why do baseball teams always have a day off after their home opener?

I’ve always wondered why MLB teams have a day off after their home opener. It is the only time during the season when a series is broken up like that. Anyone know?
It’s precautionary. Home openers take place in early spring when it rains a lot. So if a game is rained out, it can be made up the next day. It isn’t always needed, but I’m sure the Yankees thought it was a good idea this season.

The Twins didn’t have a day off after their home opener this year. They opened with 8 straight games and just had their first off day yesterday. The first 7 were at home.

It’s like Kyle H said: Most Northeastern teams open in the Spring where it rains a lot. Teams want to make sure that if it rains they can make it up that game right away, plus they don’t want to play a doubleheader the next day because of all the opening day festivities.

Since the season starts early its incase there would be rain and force the game to be postpond. Look at this year the Cardinals home opener was postpond after 2 1/2 innings and with the day off they played that game the following day and thats the reason for the off day following the opener!
